Analysts say the rate of deforestation in the Amazon has accelerated over the past 15 years.
According to a report released by the Brazilian Space Research Organization, deforestation has increased by 22 percent in the past year. The Amazon rainforest plays a major role in largely controlling the rate of global warming.
According to the latest data, about 13,235 square kilometers of forest will be destroyed in 2020-21, the highest level since 2006. The report also alleges that deforestation of the Amazon has increased under the rule of Brazilian President Jair Bolzano.
