Far-reaching changes at Amazon: Deliveries to parcel stations are no longer free of charge. Nothing changes for Prime members.

Amazon customers without a Prime membership were previously able to have their orders sent to the online retailer’s pick-up stations or DHL free of charge. This is now over. From now on, each delivery will cost 1.99 euros per shipment, as Amazon writes.

The company will only charge no shipping costs for deliveries to pick-up stations and lockers for orders worth 39 euros or more. Nothing changes for Prime members. Shipping will continue to be free.

Exceptions are items such as books and Kindle devices. Amazon generally ships these products without any shipping charges – even to non-Prime members.

An Amazon spokesperson told “Spiegel”: “The introduction of a minimum order value for free deliveries to pick-up stations is not a decision we take lightly.” Price structures are regularly reviewed and adjustments made. The aim is to “offer customers greater added value”.

Last year, Amazon changed the minimum order value for free delivery for non-Prime members to shipping addresses in Germany. Since then, the minimum order value for free delivery has been 39 euros instead of 29 euros as before.

The company did not increase the delivery costs itself. You can find an overview of all shipping costs and their conditions here.

Since then, orders worth less than 39 euros have been charged 2.99 euros per delivery for media products, Amazon devices, and fashion and sportswear. An exception applies to media that has not been approved for minors, i.e. that is only approved for people over 18. Shipping always costs a flat rate of five euros.

Another special regulation applies to e-cigarettes and e-shishas and their accessories. They may also only be sold to adults, and the shipping costs per shipment are a flat rate of three euros.
