Amazon unveils drone and robot for help around the house

by time news

Amazon has shown two new home products – the Ring Always Home Cam drone and the Astro robot, designed to help with the household. Both devices will hit the US market by the end of 2021. Ring Always Home Cam will cost $ 250, and Amazon Astro at the start of sales will cost $ 1,000, then the price will rise to $ 1,500. The possibility of new accessories appearing in other markets is not reported.

Always Home Cam is a video camera attached to a drone that can either move along a predetermined route, or react to the Ring Alarm’s home system and go to the part of the house where the alarm was triggered. The drone supports control via the Ring app, and when it is installed on the charging station, the camera lens is closed by a shutter – shooting is carried out only during flight.

Astro is made in the form of a screen and a video camera installed on the platform. Two 30.5-cm wheels with 360-degree rotation provide maneuverability, a built-in battery allows you to work up to 2 hours, and the standard docking station charges the robot in 45 minutes. Astro has a 10-inch screen and a 5-megapixel camera with speakers that can make video calls – the robot can move to keep the user’s face in focus. An additional 12-megapixel camera on a retractable rod allows you to view the room from a height. The device independently orients itself in space, while traveling, it inspects the premises and can carry loads – in the back of the Astro there are two cup holders that can be replaced with a basket for things. The robot’s load capacity is 2 kg, and the basket contains USB-C connectors for charging gadgets.
