The Ambassador of Azerbaijan to France Leyla Abdullayeva became the guest of the program of the former director of intelligence of the General Directorate of External Security of France, the former head of the General Directorate of Economic Intelligence Alain Jouillet on the Openboxtv channel.
As Day.Az reported on Saturday, the program said that Azerbaijan is a democratic, secular and multicultural country, about the former Karabakh conflict, UN resolutions, the Zangezur transport corridor, and preparations for COP29.
The ambassador, first of all, noted the lack of awareness about Azerbaijan in France and expressed regret over the dissemination of misinformation about the country by local media.
Talking about the history of Azerbaijan, the diplomat noted that the country is the first democratic republic in the East, where women were granted the right to vote and be elected back in 1919. Recalling that in the first years after the restoration of independence, Azerbaijan faced war, L. Abdullayeva noted that, despite all the difficulties, the path of democracy was chosen, the country is a member of many regional and international organizations. It was noted that representatives of many ethnic groups live in Azerbaijan. The model of multiculturalism in Azerbaijan is an example for all countries.
Information was also provided that as a result of the occupation of 20 percent of the territory of Azerbaijan, more than a million Azerbaijanis became refugees and internally displaced persons. Despite 4 UN Security Council resolutions on the need for the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from the territory of Azerbaijan and the desire of our country to resolve the conflict peacefully, Baku was ultimately forced to liberate its lands by military means. Today, the parties continue negotiations on signing a peace treaty put forward by Azerbaijan.
The program also discussed the Zangezur corridor, which should connect the main part of Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, which has been under blockade for 33 years. It was emphasized that this project will serve the development of the entire region, including Armenia. At the same time, it was noted that today the French media are publishing misinformation about this corridor. L. Abdullayeva noted that the peace treaty put forward by Azerbaijan in order to establish lasting peace in the region complies with all the norms and principles of international law and reflects respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the two countries. Preparations are underway between the two countries for the process of delimitation and demarcation of borders.
Answering a question about Azerbaijan’s position on Ukraine, the ambassador said that Azerbaijan is one of the first countries to send humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Azerbaijan recognizes the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
During the program, it was noted that Azerbaijan has rich hydrocarbon reserves, and it was emphasized that it plays a big role in ensuring the energy security of Europe. They also talked about large regional projects being implemented by our country. It was brought to attention that, despite the fact that Azerbaijan is rich in energy resources, it gives preference to the “green transition” and renewable energy sources. Azerbaijan is a strategic partner of the European Union in the field of energy, and an agreement has already been signed on the export of “green energy” to two countries on the continent – Hungary and Romania.
It was noted that participants in COP29, which Azerbaijan will host this year, will see the beauty of ancient Baku, which is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
Noting that France takes a position on arming Armenia, and Germany is a mediator in the negotiation process, the diplomat added that due to President Macron’s position regarding Yerevan, the situation between the two countries has reached the current level.
