Burundi and Israel: Bilateral cooperation in this new multipolar world with the mission of strengthening ties with Israel in a complex geopolitical context.
Tel Aviv ( Israel ), 13/03/2024 – As part of Burundian foreign policy, the new remarkable Ambassador-designate of Burundi to Israel, Mr. Nyamitwe Willyofficially presented his credentials to the Israeli President, HE Isaac Herzogduring a solemn ceremony.
In this new multipolar era, the assumption of office of Ambassador Nyamitwe Willy comes in an international context marked by numerous sources of tension. In addition to the war in Ukraine, which is currently capturing the world’s attention, armed conflicts are raging in the Sahel, Sudan, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique and, of course, the Israeli-Palestinian region.
It is important to emphasize that in Africa, certain countries, like South Africa, contest the legitimacy of the State of Israel, considering it as an entity resulting from British colonization in Palestine, a source of ‘a permanent tension between Israelis and Palestinians since its creation.
From a geopolitical point of view, Israel’s influence on the international scene lies in part in its powerful diaspora in the United States. This particularly active community plays a significant role in the context of “Unipolar American Neoliberal Globalization” (GUAN) [1]whose influence is beginning to fade.
The appointment of Mr. Nyamitwe Willy as Ambassador of Burundi to Israel opens a new chapter in relations between the two countries. His mandate will undoubtedly be marked by the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in various areas, while taking into account regional and international geopolitical sensitivities.
