The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR or Middle Corridor) demonstrates consistent growth in freight traffic from year to year.

Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Alim Bayel told Trend about this on Thursday on the sidelines of the Azerbaijani-Kazakh agricultural forum, which was held at the embassy, Day.Az reports.

“There is currently a lot of interest in the Middle Corridor. Not only in our region, but also outside it. We see that various players are showing interest in the route. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev set a goal of achieving a fivefold increase in cargo turnover along the Middle Corridor and, in principle, we are moving towards it quite well. Because we have approximately a twofold increase in cargo transportation every year. That is, in 2022 there was a twofold increase, in 2023 almost a twofold increase. This year we are also seeing good growth,” he noted.

According to him, last year the volume of cargo transportation amounted to almost 2.8 million tons.

“This year we expect the figures to exceed 4 million tons, and possibly reach 4.5 million tons. That is, the dynamics are good, but of course this is not enough. If we work at this pace, promptly remove all barriers, resolve bureaucratic issues, and build work on the principle of a single window, then the volume of 10 million tons per year is not far off. We also hope for a further increase in volume,” the ambassador added.

It should be noted that the Middle Corridor connects the container rail freight networks of China and the European Union countries through the countries of Central Asia, the Caucasus, Turkey and Eastern Europe.

A multilateral multimodal transport infrastructure links the ferry terminals of the Caspian and Black Seas with the railway systems of China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Ukraine and Poland.

The Middle Corridor facilitates the increase of cargo flow from China to Turkey, as well as to European countries and in the opposite direction.

The route train running along this corridor delivers cargo from China to Europe in an average of 20-25 days, and this is one of the main advantages of this transport corridor.
