Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman dreamed of building a country of social welfare for the people of Bangladesh.
The outgoing ambassador of Norway Espen Richter Svendsen said this when he went to meet the Prime Minister at his office in the capital on Tuesday (July 23).
The Prime Minister said that Bangabandhu was very fond of Scandinavian countries because of their social services and he dreamed of ensuring similar social services for the people of Bangladesh.

The press secretary said that during the meeting, both of them talked about the ongoing quota reform movement of the students. The ambassador expressed satisfaction on learning that the government has already issued a notification reforming the quota system and has taken the initiative to conduct an impartial inquiry into the matter.
The Ambassador requested the Prime Minister to open the Bangladesh Embassy in Norway citing the long standing relationship between Bangladesh and Norway. Because Bangladesh has missions in Scandinavian countries except Norway.
In response, the Prime Minister said that Bangladesh will positively consider opening an embassy in Norway at a convenient time.
Referring to the existing ‘world class’ ship breaking industry in Bangladesh, he said, Bangladesh has gradually improved from its earlier position and has become the number one country in ship breaking industry.
The ambassador expressed his opinion that if Bangladesh maintains various measures including compliance with all rules and environmental issues, their position in this industry will be stronger.
The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to Norway for its continued support and sympathy for the Palestinians.
The ambassador said that Norway has historically been very sympathetic to the Palestinians. She has long chaired meetings of donor groups for the Palestinians.
Ambassador of Norway praised the huge development success of Bangladesh.
Advisor to the Prime Minister Salman F Rahman, Ambassador at Large Mohammad Ziauddin and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister M Tofazzal Hossain Mia were present on the occasion.
