Ambassador praises third edition of the Luanda Biennial

News from Angola – The Ambassador of Angola to Ethiopia Miguel Bembe, praised the third edition of the Pan-African Forum for Culture of Peace and Non-Violence (Luanda Biennial), which took place on the 22nd, 23rd and 24th of November.

In this edition, the event focused on “Education, Culture of Peace and African Citizenship as Tools for the Sustainable Development of the Continent”.

In a note that Notícias de Angola had access to today, the Angolan diplomat informed the Peace and Security Council of the African Union, the results of the event during a meeting in virtual format, the presidency, the Gambian ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the Union Africana and UNECA, Jainaba Jagne.

The Angolan representative in Ethiopia explained that the 2023 Luanda Biennial sought to deepen the sharing of visions on the culture of peace, security, African citizenship, democracy in Africa, building more peaceful societies, transforming attitudes and approaches in the political and economic domains and social to strengthen the pillars of the continent’s integral progress.

Miguel Bembe said that the Luanda Biennial aimed to provide greater coordination between the African Union program regarding activities inherent to peace and stability, as well as the agenda of the President of the Republic João Lourenço, as AU Champion for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa.

The note also clarifies that the objective of the event was to develop work with UNESCO in defining action plans to promote education, science and dissemination of art in favor of promoting a culture of peace and non-violence.

He also highlighted, as a goal of the Biennale, the encouragement of reflection on the advantages of implementing quality education, African citizenship, continental integration, climate action, the use of renewable energy and information and communication technologies, the empowerment of women and girls, as well as the consolidation of democratic governance and the rule of law in Africa.

The Angolan diplomat highlighted the Intergenerational dialogue between Leaders and Young People.

The Biennale Steering Committee recommended the Republic of Angola and the African Union Commission, specifically the Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security to work on a draft decision to be adopted by the 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of AU, to be held on the 17th and 18th of February 2024, with the aim of defining on the AU’s agenda an exclusive month for the holding of the Pan-African Forum for the Culture of Peace and Non-violence – Luanda Biennial.

The participants congratulated President João Lourenço for holding the event and encouraged him to work towards maintaining the Biennale as a space for reflection, listening and exchange of ideas between young people, Heads of State and Government, business leaders and other decision-makers interested in resolutions of issues relating to youth such as the materialization of the AU Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN Agenda 2030.
