In less than two months, the European Championship will begin. The Red Devils will begin their tournament on June 17 with a match against Slovakia and will then meet Romania and Ukraine in the group stage.

The national coach, Domenico Tedesco, is already in full preparation for the tournament. The Devils’ base camp has already been booked and, along with Montenegro and Luxembourg, the final training partners before the tournament have also been found. The main task of the national coach is therefore to establish his list of players.

Al-Dakhil will not be ready for the Euro

There remain some uncertainties but Tedesco now sees one less option in defense. Sacha Tavolieri reports that the Devils will not be able to count on Ameen Al-Dakhil for the European Championship whatever happens.

The 22-year-old defender was first brought into the squad in June and has already been capped four times since. In March, however, he did not participate in the friendlies against Ireland and England due to an injury which kept him sidelined for several months.

De Winter’s chances increase

Furthermore, his last match with his club Burnley was also on January 31 and it will be some time before Al-Dakhil is fit to play again.

His recovery will take longer than expected. It is already clear that his season is over and that he will not be ready for the European Championship. It is therefore one less option for Tedesco in central defense.

Jan Vertonghen, Wout Faes and Zeno Debast are certainties in the selection, but the position of fourth central defender is still open. The chances of Koni De Winter, who was called up for the first time in March, therefore seem to increase considerably.
