/ On Wednesday, the United States of America warned the Ansar Allah Houthi group of “severe repercussions” as a result of their targeting of ships in the Red Sea.
Today, Wednesday, the Houthis announced an attack using a large number of drones and ballistic and sea missiles against an American ship in the Red Sea.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said, “There will be serious repercussions of Houthi threats to navigation in the Red Sea.”
He added, “We made clear to Iran that support for the Houthis must stop and that it is not in their interest to expand the scope of the conflict,” explaining that “the Red Sea attacks are supported and incited by Iran.”
In this context, NBC quoted Pentagon officials as saying, “Washington has prepared a plan that includes options on how to respond to Houthi attacks in the Red Sea.”
For his part, the British Defense Minister said, “Yesterday’s attack on the Royal Navy warship in the Red Sea was the largest in decades.”
Earlier today, Wednesday, the US Military Command in the Middle East (Centcom) announced that US and British forces responded to the largest attack launched by the Houthis so far on international shipping routes in the Red Sea.
Centcom said in a statement reported by Agence France-Presse that its forces shot down 18 explosive drones, two winged missiles and a ballistic missile, launched by the Houthis yesterday evening, Tuesday, in an attack that did not result in injuries or damage.
She added, “The Iranian-backed Houthis launched a complex attack with Iranian-designed unidirectional attack drones, anti-ship cruise missiles, and an anti-ship ballistic missile, from areas controlled by the Houthis in Yemen towards the southern Red Sea.”
She explained that confronting this new Houthi attack was undertaken by F-18 fighters that took off from the US aircraft carrier Eisenhower, three American destroyers and one British destroyer.
