American Matteo Jorgenson wins the Tour of Oman by just a second

by time news

This is called a tight result. The American Matteo Jorgenson (Movistar) won the Tour of Oman by the smallest of the gaps – one second – at the end of the fifth and last stage won on Wednesday by his runner-up, the Belgian Mauri Vansevenant (Soudal Quick-Step ).

The race was played out like in a film during a formidable final between the first three of the general classification, isolated in front, in the ultimate ascent of Green Mountain (5.7 km at 10.5%).

Pulling away in the last meters, Vansevenant managed to cross the finish line in the lead, in the same time as Jorgenson who preceded him by five seconds in the general classification before the stage.

With his victory – the second of his career with the pros – the 23-year-old Belgian pocketed ten bonus seconds, against six for the second, thus failing in the end to one second in the general classification of Jorgenson.

The third man, the French Geoffrey Bouchard (AG2R-Citroën), finished third in the stage and completes the podium of the Tour of Oman.

Aged 23, Jorgenson had taken power by winning his first professional victory on Monday at the top of Jabal Haat.

We find in the Top 10, three Spaniards and three Belgians, including the young prodigy Cian Uijtdebroeks (19 years old).
