Stifler’s character is one of the most quotable and memorable characters in the wild American Pie comedy of the past two decades, but the actor who brought the cult iconic cast member to life earned almost no money to play him.

Although the teen sex comedy was a box office hit, spawning three direct sequels (American Pie 2, American Wedding and American Reunion and several spin-offs), Seann William Scott only earned $8,000 (£7,065) for his part in the debut film.

The film was made in 1999 for only $11 million, but earned $235 million at the global box office. Speaking to Rick Eisen about how The Stepmeister has changed, the 46-year-old, who only did six days on set, said he actually thought, at the time, that his payback was pretty good.

When asked if it was true that he only got a few thousand for the film, Scott said: “That was a lot of money at the time for me. Ch-ching!” Yes, because then I bought a used Thunderbird for $5,000, or maybe $6,000. I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, baby.’

“I don’t know what happened to the other two thousand dollars,” explained William Scott. “Because then I ended up having to work at the Los Angeles Zoo as a churros guy. So maybe it was even less than $8,000.”

When pressed on the small amount, Scott added: “It was before it came out. So I shot the movie, we’re waiting for it to come out, I got the Thunderbird, maybe I spent it all on the Thunderbird, maybe it was like all of $8,000 or $7,000 , and then I had another job and then I was working at the Los Angeles Zoo, waiting for the movie to come out.”

The sequels earned Scott $5 million. Last month it was revealed that another American Pie sequel was in the works. Plot details have not been revealed, but it is reportedly expected to be a “fresh take” on the famous franchise. It is not known if the new film will include any of the original cast, which included Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nichols, Tara Reid, Scott, Mena Subari, Eddie Kaye Thomas, John Cho and Jennifer Coolidge , Eugene.
