/ The British newspaper “The Guardian” reported that “extremist discourse” is no longer marginal as it was before, but has become a political dialogue, against the backdrop of US Congressman Mike Collins’ call to throw migrants from helicopters.

According to the newspaper, Collins wants to return to a method of purge that Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet used to get rid of his political opponents.

According to a report by the newspaper, “extremist rhetoric is no longer limited to marginal elements as it was in the past, but has also seeped into the mainstream political dialogue, as Collins’ statements symbolize a broader trend toward violent and authoritarian thinking among some conservative circles in the United States.”

“This disturbing discourse can be traced back to the emergence of the Hoppin’ Snake meme, which glorifies Pinochet’s brutal methods of suppressing his political enemies, including using helicopters to eliminate them. Various far-right groups, such as the Boogaloo and the Proud Boys, have adopted this symbol, which is used by far-right extremists and white supremacists to glorify authoritarian violence and oppression,” she said.

“Collins’ comments on X, calling for the extrajudicial execution of immigrants, demonstrate the normalization of violence within certain sectors of the American political establishment,” she added. “In the wake of the post, the Republican congressman was briefly banned from the platform for violating anti-violent speech rules, a major achievement given the strong presence of white supremacist and neo-fascist groups on X.”

“Collins is not the only American political figure who has recently promoted political assassination,” she said. “Donald Trump’s lawyers told a federal appeals court last month that if the president ordered the assassination of a political rival, he would be immune from prosecution while in office. They argued that the proper course of action for such an action would be to impeach and convict the president before facing any legal consequences.”

“This viewpoint reveals a disturbing disregard for democratic norms and the rule of law,” she explained. “Not to mention that this authoritarian mindset is based on the writings of Hans Hermann Hoppe, whose libertarian philosophy advocates the expulsion of political opponents from society.”

“The convergence between far-right ideology and mainstream American politics is clearly demonstrated by recent events, particularly the Reclaim Our Borders rally in Texas, where right-wing figures are promoting conspiracies that claim immigrants are behind, but this dangerous rhetoric is fueling anti-immigrant sentiment and emboldening extremist elements within the Republican Party,” she noted.

The Guardian concluded its report by painting a bleak picture of the Republican Party in 2024, noting that it “has become filled with extremist ideas and policies, treating Jews, Muslims and immigrants as threats, calling for violence as a solution to problems, and embracing fascist ideologies, a worrying shift that calls for an urgent need to stand up to these dangerous ideologies.”
