/ The American team, DC United, is putting the final touches on its plans to hold part of its preparatory camp for the upcoming football season in Saudi Arabia, according to what informed people revealed to the Washington Post.

Major League Soccer side DC United will join Inter Miami and Argentine superstar Lionel Messi for a training camp and exhibition matches in the Kingdom.

A person familiar with the trip arrangements said the two teams would likely visit simultaneously, but would not play a direct match.

Team officials declined to comment on the report, the Washington Post reported.

United have spent the bulk of their previous two training camps in Southern California and are expected to enter the competition later this year, preparing in Saudi Arabia before moving to South Florida to continue preparations for their opening match on February 24.

Inter Miami announced its plans for Saudi Arabia on December 11, revealing that it will participate in the Riyadh Season Cup alongside Saudi clubs Al Hilal and Al Nassr in the Riyadh Season Cup.

Messi and his teammates will play two friendly matches in Saudi Arabia against Al-Nassr and its Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo in a match that the organizers have called “The Last Dance” and Al-Hilal (between January 29 and February 1), before traveling to Hong Kong and Tokyo.

According to the Washington Post, it is not clear how many games United will play and who they will face, but given the distance covered, the newspaper says it is likely to play two or three games.
