At the 2023 Paris Autonomic trade show, Citroën has presented “Ami for All”, a Citroën Ami project specially designed to offer a solution to disabled people with mobility problems.

The prototype is designed to be driven by disabled people, particularly those in wheelchairs. It incorporates technical advances such as a greater door opening angle, equipment for transporting the wheelchair to the seat (table and straps), mechanical and manual control for accelerating and braking, a steering wheel control to facilitate driving and a smart solution for transporting the wheelchair inside or outside the passenger compartment.

Ami is the ideal tool to improve daily life and contribute to greater independence. It encourages people with disabilities to drive actively, within a controlled budget, and avoids the complexity of adapted transport or public transport, so that they remain active participants in their own mobility and enjoy direct autonomy.

Its compact size makes it agile and easy to park and ensures there is enough space around it to maneuver a wheelchair. Its height also makes it easy to climb on board. With a speed of up to 45 km/h, it is easy to drive and its range of 75 km makes it perfect for daily use. It is stable and closed, which guarantees greater safety and comfort.

“Ami for All” is as easy to use as any other everyday device. You do not need a special charger and recharging is quick and easy. Its 5.5 kWh lithium-ion battery, housed flat under the floor, can be easily recharged using the on-board power cable, located in the passenger door well. Once the cable is plugged in, it takes less than four hours to fully charge with a conventional 220V plug.

Con «Ami for All», Citroën restores independence to those who have lost it, with an affordable electric mobility solution that does not require a driving license. «Ami for All» offers a simple way to lead an active life and integrate socially without depending on a third party companion, without using public transport with its schedules and access on unpredictable occasions.

The genesis of this project is symbolic: it stems from the Star*up program, an ideas incubator that allows Stellantis employees to present their innovative ideas. If the proposal is selected, the employee has the opportunity to participate in the ‘business accelerator’, where ideas can be turned into reality. The meeting between Christophe Lapeyre, the person behind the project, and Citroën around a common vision occurred very naturally.

«The project that I shared in 2022 consisted of offering a turnkey solution to adapt the mobility of disabled people to the electrical challenge. The idea came to me after watching my stepson’s high school students rely on adapted vehicle rides while their classmates enjoyed complete freedom. In addition to the societal challenges, the identification of technical and industrial solutions was especially motivating. With Citroën, I immediately found a sponsor who believed in me and supported me in the development of the project” – Christophe Lapeyre, manager of the “Ami for All” project.
