The Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Stephanie Khoury, renewed the Mission’s commitment to leading conflict prevention efforts and facilitating an inclusive Libyan-led political process, with the aim of holding presidential and parliamentary elections, under a unified consensus government.

In a meeting with ambassadors, heads of missions and diplomatic representatives accredited to Libya to discuss the latest developments in the country, Khoury stressed the need for all Libyan parties to reduce tension and engage in constructive dialogue.

Khoury stressed the mission’s diligent work with Libyan leaders and stakeholders to lay the foundation for this decisive step to break the political deadlock and address the security and economic concerns that may arise from it, while emphasizing Libya’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, by adopting a coordinated international approach to support the country’s efforts to move towards stability.

Khoury also reviewed a number of issues, including human rights violations represented by arbitrary arrests and detentions, and the latest developments in the ongoing municipal elections.

Khoury also discussed with the ambassadors the challenges facing Libyan women, mine action efforts, and humanitarian work in various regions of Libya.
