Amir Avivi to Channel 7: “To Marev Michaeli bypassing Havara was not very important”

The village of Hawara becomes a focus for severe and murderous terrorist attacks. About the way to deal with a village in the heart of which is a necessary traffic axis for many settlers, we spoke with Brigadier General Bamil Amir Avivi, CEO of the security movement.

“There is no operational problem without a solution”, states Avivi and says that in the past he commanded a battalion in this sector, the period was much more complex and stormy in the operational aspect than the current period and the answer was reinforcement of forces, which in his opinion is necessary even now.

Three times the amount of forces invested than today. In the Nablus area, we had seven battalions of SDF, and we are far from there. Apparently, the need for SDF is much more significant,” says Avivi, and mentions that in the Nablus region, on the villages included in it, there is activity of various terrorist organizations and organizations, such as the Lions’ Den, which requires forces more and a significant intelligence focus on the spot. “This requires ongoing action in the villages of the area, patrols and not just intelligence, patrols not only on the road to Hawara but also inside, which creates uncertainty for them,” says Avivi.

He also points out the importance of speeding up the construction of the Hawara bypass road, which will lead to a reduction in friction between the Jewish and Arab populations, even if it is not a perfect solution. “This is one component of an overall security concept.”

In this context, he mentions that the paving steps were frozen by the previous Minister of Transportation, Merav Michaeli, who, according to him, “didn’t think it was important enough”, due to which the prioritization of the road, which prevented the constant entry of many settlers into the traffic jams of the hostile village, was canceled. Avivi mentions in his words that “the one who promoted the bypass roads was actually Rabin, the head of her party in the past, who promoted roads extensively, which greatly eased the lives of the Jewish settlers. This is probably part of the solution here as well.”

“It is true that there is a limit to the amount of forces, but when there is a point where there are serious attacks time and time again, lessons need to be learned and effort concentrated there,” states Avivi.
