In the context of the ongoing conflict in the Eastern Ladakh border region, India has urged China to establish bilateral relations on the basis of mutual will, respect and food.

The meeting of G20 foreign ministers was held in Bali, Indonesia on Thursday. Between the meeting, Foreign Minister S. Jaishong met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and held bilateral talks. A statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs regarding the talks which lasted for about 1 hour stated:

The Chinese Minister was informed about the need to properly observe the agreements already signed between the two countries and those agreed in the previous talks. The minister also insisted that all kinds of problems in the eastern Ladakh border area should be resolved quickly.

Good relations between India and China should be based on mutual respect, mutual will and mutual interests.

Peace on the Border:

Minister Jaishank highlighted that the forces of both countries have been withdrawn from some areas of the eastern Ladakh border and insisted that the forces should be withdrawn from other areas as well.

Both the ministers agreed to speed up the next round of talks between the army chiefs of the two countries regarding the establishment of peace on the border. The ministers also agreed to keep in touch with the consular officials regarding the border issue.

Admission to Students:

Minister Jaishank also spoke about the provision of entry visas to Indian students studying medicine in China. He insisted that the Indian students should be allowed at the earliest and the air transport between the two countries should be started at the earliest.

The Ministers also discussed the implementation of some matters agreed during the meeting held between the two Ministers last March. Ministers also discussed regional and foreign affairs.

Minister Wang Yi thanked India for its due cooperation when China hosted the BRICS meeting this year.
