DECRYPTION – A technology developed in Lausanne, Switzerland, makes it possible to restore sensations of thermal variations from a prosthesis.

“Warmth is the most beautiful feeling there is. ; it is a very pleasant feeling”, testifies Fabrizio Fidati. Having had his right hand amputated, the man has just regained the perception of temperatures on this absent limb thanks to a device developed at the Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne (EPFL, Switzerland).

He is one of 17 patients to have successfully tested this technology, as part of a clinical trial, the results of which are published this Thursday in the journal Science. On a drawing representing the missing hand, placed on a table in the extension of its stump, Fabrizio Fidati points to the index: “It’s hot, I feel it here.”
