Over 8,000 euros were raised through crowdfunding for a bronze statue of the station cat Brammetje, the red cat of Purmerend which was hit by a car last week. The statue cannot be placed on the platform of Purmerend Weidevenne station, confirms NS after notification by NH Nieuws.

Station cat Brammetje has been roaming Purmerend station for more than seven years and after the accident that claimed the feline’s life, the locals decided to pay for a statue dedicated to him to be placed right on the platform where he used to be petted by passengers in transit.

But there is no space on the platform: NS does not place monuments in sight of the train to avoid distracting the drivers. NS does not rule out the Brammetje statue being placed near the station.
