An 18-year-old man was indicted for rape accompanied by acts of torture or barbarity this Saturday August 12. The facts date back to early August in the town of Cherbourg (Manche). The young woman who allegedly suffered these acts was hospitalized in serious condition, confirmed the Coutances prosecution.
The suspect, “already known unfavorably to justice”, was placed in pre-trial detention Friday evening, indicated Dorothée Thoumyre, deputy prosecutor of Coutances (Manche), where the procedure was transferred.
The vital prognosis of the committed victim
Following “acts of great violence” which occurred at his home, the victim was immediately hospitalized and “his vital prognosis was engaged”, said Friday the public prosecutor of Cherbourg Pierre-Yves Marot.
Asked about the state of health of the victim after these events which occurred on August 4, the Coutances prosecutor’s office was not in a position on Saturday to give news of the young woman. The victim had told investigators that he had been attacked by a man “she had already seen but did not know”.

Placed in police custody on Thursday, the man had ended up “laconically recognizing the facts likely to be attributed to him”, according to the magistrate in Cherbourg. Initiated by the Cherbourg public prosecutor’s office, the procedure was transmitted on Friday to the Coutances public prosecutor’s office, the investigation center, which opened a judicial investigation for rape accompanied by torture or acts of barbarism.
