In West Africa, the WAEMU Commission and its partners are stepping up their commitments in the green economy. On Thursday August 3, 2023, the President of the Commission, Abdoulaye Diop and the Head of the European Union Delegation to Burkina Faso signed two financing agreements in Ouagadougou.

Initiated and supported by the European Union (EU), the NaturAfrica program which is part of the overall biodiversity strategy of the Green Deal for Europe, has just benefited from two financing agreements. With a total amount of 53 billion FCFA, these agreements signed by the President of the UEMOA Commission, Abdoulaye Diop and the Head of the Delegation of the European Union (EU), Wolfram VETTER, focus on the components West Africa of the Naturafrica phase 1 program and the Stabilization Project in the area of the four borders Sikasso (Mali), Korhogo (Côte d’Ivoire), Bobo-Dioulasso (Burkina Faso) and Wa (Ghana). In concrete terms, this financing involves protecting wildlife and ecosystems, seizing economic opportunities for local communities and indigenous populations (CLPAs) in green sectors, and strengthening the participation of these communities and populations in EU programs that support biodiversity. With regard to the Stabilization Project in the Four Borders Area, it aims to improve the conditions for human security in terms of governance, social cohesion and economic development at the local and cross-border level of the areas concerned. Coinciding with the end of the mission of Ambassador Wolfram Vetter at the head of the Delegation of the European Union in Burkina Faso, this meeting was for President Abdoulaye Diop to testify to his host, the recognition of the Commission of Uemoa, for the constant commitment and availability he has shown in the work of strengthening the relations of cooperation between the two Organizations. It should be noted that Ambassador Wolfram Vetter spent four (04) years at the head of the Delegation of the European Union.
