/ Iraqi climber Tarifa Faridoun confirmed today, Thursday, her endeavor to represent Iraqi climbing in international championships and compete with athletes from different countries, while she attributed the lack of success in mountain climbing to the lack of financial support and sports interest in the game.

Fereydoun, assistant head of the climbers’ group in Sulaymaniyah, said in an interview with Agency, “Iraq has all the ingredients for success in the sport of climbing, especially in the Kurdistan Region, which is surrounded by a chain of high mountains, but unfortunately we see its practice limited and limited to amateurs because there is no sports body committed to and sponsoring the sport.” Climbing and other sports.

She confirmed that she “established a specialized academy that embraces the talents of boys and girls, which is the first in Iraq, but she was shocked by the reality and the lack of support and financial capabilities, especially since mountaineering equipment requires huge sums of money and high-level trainers, in addition to a large headquarters that accommodates the trainees.”

Trifa explained that “the practice of climbing has begun to expand in Kurdistan, and the demand for the female element has increased,” stressing that “we have high-level female athletes in Sulaymaniyah who compete with each other in events and tournaments held by the climbers’ group within a limited scope on various occasions, and we have female climbers who compete fiercely.” In each tournament, among the prominent names are: Desis, Benaz, Media, Heshu, Jeela, Peyman, and Jin.

The athlete attributed the lack of spread of climbing and the lack of an Iraqi team for the event, to “its newness in Iraq and the Middle East, and because it is a free sport consisting of seven events and there is no sporting body committed to it.”

Trifa Faridun Ali holds several positions and tasks, including Director of the Women’s Empowerment Department in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, Accounts Manager, Member of the Sulaymaniyah Tennis Federation, Assistant President of the Climbers Group, and the first female broadcaster and presenter of sports programs in Iraq and Kurdistan.
