American Abby Steiner, a student at the University of Kentucky, achieved the best performance of the year in the 200m on Saturday, in 21”80 (wind: +1.3 m/s), to win the championship final NCAA universities held in Eugene, Oregon. The 22-year-old Steiner edged Nigeria’s Favor Ofili of Lousiana State University to second in 22”05.

With her time, Steiner put in the best performance of the year, which until then was the property of 18-year-old Namibian Christine Mboma, who had run the 200m in 21.87 on April 30. The performance of the American sprinter took place on the very track where the World Athletics Championships will be organized in July. It will also host the American selections from June 23 to 26, during which Abby Steiner will be able to try to win her place for the Worlds.
