We all imagine billionaires in the same way: living in large mansions in the best neighborhoods, with high-end cars, designer clothes, taking dream trips and being able to enjoy all kinds of hobbies without worries.
A stereotype that Geoffrey Holt has completely broken, and that is that no one in Hinsdale, United States, would have ever imagined that the man who took care of the park lawn, traveled by bicycle and lived in a small prefabricated house, was actually of a billionaire.
Secret billionaire. “He seemed to have what he wanted, but he didn’t want much,” Edwin Smith, Holt’s best friend and former employer, told CBS. However, Holt died earlier this year with an unexpected secret: he was the owner of a multimillion-dollar fortune.
The testament. But not only that, Holt left clear instructions in his will to leave $3.8 million to the town of Hinsdale to benefit the community in the areas of education, health, recreation and culture.
The money donated. Although city officials have not yet had a formal meeting to discuss what they will do with the donated money, they already have multiple proposals on the table: improve the city hall clock, restore buildings, buy a new vote counting machine or create a online driver education course.
Where does the money come from?
In the past, Holt worked as a production manager at a grain mill and became interested in investing and finance. Little by little, he managed to grow his savings and thanks to his well-made investments he eventually became a multimillionaire.
