Placido Domingo it was presented during the first week of August at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. The audience gave him a standing ovation for his interpretations of excerpts from ‘La traviata’ and ‘Il trovatore’, by Giuseppe Verdi, not knowing that, almost at the same time, the Argentine Federal Police had him in the focus of a wide-ranging investigation, related to with one sect which, under the auspices of the teaching of yoga, was linked to the human trafficking i the offer of sexual services.
The tenor’s name appears allegedly in several telephone conversations intercepted as part of the investigation into the dismantled School of Yoga in Buenos Aires. Their leader, the octogenarian Juan Percowiczis one of the 24 arrested by the security forces.
In one of these audios, of unknown date, allusion is made to an alleged meeting between Sunday with a woman which is part of the sect and to which he is called with the nickname of ‘Mendy’, according to the first information. In another recording appears the same voice attributed to the singer: “When we leave dinner we come separately.” One of the recordings leaked by the press shows ‘Mendy’ with an interlocutor who has not been identified. “Plácido said he could come to visit us, that is, he will come to visit me. Because he is going home to New York and he remembered it yesterday.” And he adds: “I will have to sacrifice myself once more, I have a great vocation for service.” There is also a conversation between ‘Mendy’ and the accountant Percowicz, to whom he warns: “He (Domingo) already called me and armed the matufia (deceit) so that I stay at the hotel without the agents noticing.” And a joker Percowicz replies: “What a degenerate you are.” To which she adds: “It seems to me that you collaborated a little with this product”.
The Yoga School of Buenos Aires has operated in this criminal key for three decades and years ago it had already been in the crosshairs of the Justice. the judge Ariel Escato returned to this cause and ordered wiretapping. The tenor, who has been reported for sexual harassment in the United States, it is not the subject of the magistrate’s investigation.
Domingo’s image has been affected by the events that involved him in the United States, to the point of having to take a step aside at the Los Angeles Opera.
The scope of the sect
Domingo’s involvement in the Buenos Aires Yoga School scandal, a criminal organization that, under the promise of spiritual development recruited and subjugated hundreds of peopledid nothing more than remove the singer from the place of acclaim for his vocal gifts to place him again in a plane of suspicion.
