Remakes of old films are not the only thing that the American industry of the cinema generates and proof of this is Don’t Talk to Strangerswhich seeks to expand on the success of the original title.
With the name of The gueststhe 2022 Danish film, managed to make a name for itself, however, with major limitations such as language and a niche market within horror festivalsthe title was shortened to a not very commercial success.
Now, from the hand of a large producer like Blumhouse and the distribution of Universal Pictures, The plot of the American film has positioned itself as one of the most anticipated releases of this weekend.
The story looks quite attractive, it is a horror and suspense film that tells the story of Ben y Louise DaltonAn American couple, accompanied by their daughter, visit Tuscany, Italy, where they meet an English family with whom they spend a pleasant time at dinner and months later they invite them to visit their country house, but the behavior of these people will lead the Americans to feel uncomfortable to the point of terror.
This is how the film arrives with good reviews to the theaters; on the site Rotten Tomatoes, It has a great reception from experts, who position it with 89% acceptance on the site.
“Don’t Talk to Strangers successfully achieves the most basic element of horror: Executing the collapse of a situation that we all see going wrong but are too absorbed in to take our eyes off of it,” wrote the critic of Chicago ReaderAdam Mullins-Khatib.
For its part, the criticism of the New York TimesManohla Dargis, said in her text that: “The new Don’t Talk to Strangers, “It seems made for American viewers, who may like the gore but really love the white picket fences and the reassuring myths hidden behind them.”
Likewise, Danny Leigh of Financial Times praised the remake in his review: “A dark comedy about middle-class mores that is enhanced by McAvoy’s portrayal of a certain kind of important English personality. But we also get a thorny fable about parents and child-rearing, which in turn leads to some absolutely frightening situations.”
And although there are some substantial differences with its original counterpart, the film manages to maintain that line of suspense that made it a catchy title originally.
The cast of this film, which is already in theaters in Mexico, includes James McAvoy, Mackenzie Davis, Aisling Franciosi, Scoot McNairy, Dan Hough, Alix West Lefler and Motaz Malhees, among others. All under the direction of James Watkins.
