An earthquake was felt this evening (Monday) in the center of the country as well as in the Jordan Valley area, when residents reported vibrations and movement of items inside buildings, and as a result, alarms were activated in several centers. The source of the earthquake that was felt in Israel is a magnitude 6.3 earthquake that hit the Syria-Turkey border area. At this time there are no known injuries or damage. The Jordan Valley Regional Council stated that the council is checking and reviewing the situation and will update accordingly. The earthquake was also felt in Syria, Egypt, and Lebanon.
According to reports in the “Reuters” news agency, buildings were damaged in Antakya in Turkey following the earthquake that hit the area this evening.
As a reminder, at least 43,885 people died across Turkey and Syria following the strong earthquake, which struck the countries with a magnitude of 7.8 at the beginning of the month, according to local authorities. Efforts to rescue survivors have been somewhat hampered by the cold weather, and authorities are grappling with the logistical challenges of delivering aid to northwestern Syria.
