Although there has been no official confirmation from Egypt, an Egyptian delegation is expected to arrive in Tel Aviv today, Friday, in the hope of pushing forward talks in order to reach a truce and release Israeli prisoners held in the Gaza Strip.

It seems that the Egyptian delegation will receive an answer regarding a proposal to release dozens of Israeli prisoners in exchange for a ceasefire.

Israeli officials reported that the government discussed a new truce proposal yesterday, Thursday, which stipulates the release of prisoners, before the expected visit today by the Egyptian delegation.

While a senior Israeli official revealed that the talks focused specifically on a proposal to initially release 20 prisoners who are considered “humanitarian” cases, according to what was reported by the “Wala” website.

This comes as international efforts concerned with the issue of the prisoners’ deal and the truce are racing against time to stop Israel’s determination to invade the southern city of Rafah, which is crowded with displaced Palestinian civilians.

Meanwhile, Ghazi Hamad, a member of the Hamas political bureau, confirmed to Agence France-Presse from Qatar that the possible Israeli military attack on Rafah will not achieve for Israel “what it wants.”

He added, “We spoke to all parties related to the ongoing conflict, whether brothers in Egypt, Qatar, or Arab and international parties, about the danger of invading Rafah, and we stressed that Israel is heading towards committing additional massacres and additional genocide.”

“Deal now”

Meanwhile, relatives of Israeli prisoners demonstrated in front of the Ministry of Defense in Tel Aviv on Thursday night – Friday, in continuation of the pressure they are exerting on the Israeli government to release detainees in Gaza.

A number of demonstrators tied their hands and stained them red, while covering their mouths with a sticker bearing the number “202,” referring to the number of days that had passed since October 7.

Some of them also carried a banner reading, “Agreement on hostages now.”

While the leaders of 18 countries, including the United States, France, the United Kingdom, and Germany, called in a joint text yesterday for “the immediate release of all hostages held by Hamas.” The text published by the White House confirmed that “the agreement on the table to release the hostages will allow for an immediate and prolonged ceasefire in the Strip.”

It is noteworthy that during the attack carried out by Hamas last October on Israeli settlements and military bases around the Gaza Strip, it captured more than 250 people, 129 of whom are still detained inside the besieged Palestinian Strip, including 34 who likely died, according to estimates by Israeli officials.
