In less than 12 hours, two politicians from the Semilla y Valor Movement parties were murdered in Huehuetenango and El Progreso.
The first event occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 14. In the Chimiche village, San Pedro Necta, the former candidate for Semilla trustee, Anibal Napoleón Ramírez Méndez, was shot when he was traveling in a truck along with his wife Enma Xiomara Morales Ramírez.
Another crime occurred on Thursday night at the entrance to the municipality of Guastatoya. The victim was identified as Edgar Ernesto Orellana Ruiz, who was elected as Third Councilor by the Valor party for the period 2024-2028.
They regret the crimes and ask for justice
Both the Valor and Semilla parties demanded that the authorities investigate the causes of the murders and capture those responsible for the crimes that caused rejection in the populations.
Ramírez Méndez was an agent of the National Civil Police and decided to get involved in the politics of his municipality. He was an active activist on social networks where he expressed his views on the situation in the country.
While Orellana Ruiz was recognized in his community as a young man who was beginning to take his steps in politics.
The crime against Ramírez Méndez occurred in broad daylight and in a populated place, near kilometer 302. According to unofficial reports, the former Police agent was shot several times, as was his life partner. Both died instantly.
“A person loved by the New Life Colony, and also known since my childhood, someone simple, humble and with a good heart, someone happy to be able to serve the people, for those of us who appreciate you, you will always live in our hearts… May you rest in peace and in a better place, great friend,” wrote a user about Orellana Ruiz.
“May the Lord strengthen the hearts of every family of Brother Edgar, a God-fearing boy, a husband in love with his wife, a father happy to have his baby, now he sleeps, my deepest condolences,” commented another user.
“Cat, God receive you in his holy glory. You were a friend of many people. God grant you eternal rest, resignation to the whole family,” noted another person who knew him.
“I have no words right now, especially on this date, there is nothing to celebrate, there is no democracy,” wrote a user when referring to the crime against Ramírez Méndez.
“Brother Anibal, a great person. How surprising. Rest in peace with his wife. Regrettable news,” added another user.
Both the department of El Progreso and Huehuetenango are territories controlled by organized crime, especially drug trafficking groups, indicate the authorities, who do not rule out the political motive in both bloody events.
