An elephant attacked and killed the householder who was out for a morning ride. Sivaraman, a native of Palakkad Dhoni, was killed. CPM workers besieged the DFO office alleging failure by the forest department. Minister AK Saseendran said that five lakh rupees will be given to Sivaraman’s family immediately as an emergency aid and the officials’ negligence will be investigated.

Katana attacked Sivaraman and felled him in the field at around five in the morning during his regular morning ride with his friends. Friends pulled Sivaraman from the mud and took him to the hospital. The CPM organized a protest in front of the DFO office alleging the failure of the forest guards. Forest Minister A. K. Saseendran said that a detailed report has been sought and action will be taken if there is any official lapse. The MLA said that if the measures to prevent the disturbance of wild animals are not speeded up, they will organize a further agitation. Solar fencing, as implemented in Walayar, will prevent wild animals from entering the country. Five lakh rupees will be given to the family as emergency assistance.
