SignalConso, the platform made available to the public by the Directorate General for Competition, Consumption and Fraud Repression (DGCCRF), has been available in English since this Friday. The reporting tool is thus accessible to more people, and in particular a significant proportion of visitors coming to France for the Rugby World Cup and then the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
A campaign in international media
“As the world’s leading tourist destination, France is guarantor of the economic protection of the millions of visitors it receives on its soil each year,” said in a statement published this Friday Olivia Grégoire, Minister Delegate in charge of SMEs, Commerce, Crafts and Tourism. A communication campaign should be launched in the international media.
Its objective is to introduce SignalConso to the English-speaking public. The app and the website allow their users to “find the answer, in English, to possible consumption problems encountered during their stay”, explained the DGCCRF. The institution will also be able to use the reports made to “detect fraud more quickly […] specifically targeting tourists.
The Department will also be able to “identify professionals who are the subject of numerous reports in tourism-oriented sectors” using the English version of SignalConso. Tourists who consider themselves victims of fraud may in particular alert the authority to possible problems of overcharging for transport services, non-compliant hotel rooms, lack of information, hidden services, defective or dangerous products/services, etc.
