Residents of Brittany and La Manche affected by recent storms will benefit from an emergency fund “exceptional”announced the Minister of Ecological Transition, Christophe Béchu, on France InterFriday November 17. « It is a first envelope of 50 million euros of public money that I am able to announce to you this morning, with a particular focus on reforestation”declared the minister.

Mr. Béchu had announced the imminent arrival of this “exceptional emergency fund” THURSDAY on France 2. “We talk a lot about Pas-de-Calais, but I don’t forget that there was a storm a few days ago in Brittany, with inhabitants who are not entitled to natural disaster rules »he declared.

Unlike the municipalities in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais affected in recent days by floods and floods, Brittany and Normandy have not been recognized as being in a state of natural disaster. “For historical reasons, a storm cannot, in mainland France, be a natural disaster whereas a cyclone overseas can be”and he “ this will have to change », admitted the minister on Friday.

“Review the natural disaster grid”

Mr. Béchu had already recalled the day before that in terms of insurance, “a cyclone is a natural disaster; a flood is a natural disaster; a storm is not a natural disaster »evoking grids that are today unsuitable for the consequences of climate change. “We are working on all climatic events to review the grid of natural disasters, the way in which we deal with them; our rules are not adapted to climate change”added Mr. Béchu.

Already on Wednesday, the government announced the creation of a fund for farmers affected in November by storms and floods in Brittany, Normandy and Hauts-de-France to the tune of 80 million euros.

“Brittany will benefit from the agricultural disaster recognition procedure and 80 million euros dedicated to the difficulties on the entire facade will be paid in addition to the aid », Specified Mr. Béchu on Friday.

Mr. Macron himself also announced on Tuesday the release of a “support fund” of 50 million euros for affected communities in the Pas-de-Calais department.
