A compact crowd, this Tuesday, July 18, to visit an exhibition devoted to the Titanic from the first day. For two months in Paris, Porte de Versailles, hundreds of objects and accessories recovered from the wreck of the famous liner are presented to the public. Several rooms of the ship and the iceberg have been rebuilt identically. 111 years after the sinking, the myth is still intact and the enthusiasts are sometimes very young.

Maxime and Gabriel, two 5-year-old twins begin their visit with a photo on the bow of the liner. Despite their young age, they have already seen the film five times: “My favorite moment is when they’re at the front of the boat (and Jack and Rose are stretching out their arms)”. For the second brother, the best passage is “when there are plenty of dead”.

See the grand main staircase

During this exhibition, it is above all a question of life on board the liner, through objects brought up from the seabed. 300 plates, jewels or even card games are on display, but the highlight of the show, for Léna, 16, is: “The main staircase! It’s really impressive. I came to the exhibition on purpose for that! It’s magnificent, it’s like it. I talk about it like I’m there because I’ve seen the movie countless times…”

A tribute to Paul-Henri Nargeolet

According to the people in the aisles rushing to touch a reproduction of the iceberg, the story of the Titanic still fascinates young and old more than a century after its sinking. Enough to make the American explorer Matthew Tulloch smile, present for the inauguration of the exhibition, it was he who recovered some of the objects presented from the wreckage: “Anyone can imagine what he would have done if he had found himself in the middle of the ocean on a sinking boat”.

This exhibition has a particular flavor for the one who has descended 4 times to 4000 meters deep with the French researcher Paul-Henri Nargeolet, who disappeared last month aboard the submersible “Titan” during an expedition on the Titanic: “Normally it was Paul-Henri who should speak and should be there for this exhibition. By seeing these objects, I hope that our contribution will serve to preserve history. It is a tribute to Paul-Henri”.

The exhibition continues until September 10.
