An expanded meeting in Benghazi in preparation for the 2025 municipal elections

Within the framework of the ongoing preparations for implementing the electoral eligibility for the municipal council elections (second group 2025), the headquarters of the Benghazi Electoral Administration Office witnessed an expanded meeting this morning, Sunday, January 5, 2024, chaired by Dr. Imad Al-Sayeh, Chairman of the Commission Board, and a number of directors of the technical departments of the public administration and heads of electoral administration offices in the Eastern Region, in the presence of the Director of the Election Security and Protection Department.

The meeting, which was held at the headquarters of the Electoral Administration Office in Benghazi, is a decisive step in the process of preparing for the upcoming electoral process, as the mechanisms for implementing the upcoming elections and the potential challenges that may face the process were discussed. The need for coordination between all parties was also stressed to ensure the success of this electoral entitlement, which is scheduled to start in the second half of this month.

At the opening of the meeting, Imad Al-Sayeh expressed his “deep gratitude for the efforts made to make the municipal elections for the first group of 2024 a success, stressing the importance of continuing cooperation and concerted efforts to achieve similar success in the municipal elections for the second group of 2025.”

Al-Sayeh added: “Good preparation and close cooperation between the various stakeholders is the key to ensuring that the electoral process runs smoothly and transparently, and we are confident that these elections will be a milestone in the process of local democracy.”

It is noteworthy that “the meeting comes within a series of preparatory meetings that aim to develop the necessary plans to confront any challenges that may hinder the electoral process, and to enhance cooperation between the security services and the Commission to ensure a safe and appropriate environment for the elections.”
