It’s developing faster than I expected. In 2016, I didn’t think we would reach the point we find ourselves in in 2023 so quickly. The world is not ready for this. AI has enormous positive potential and there is no chance of simply banning or stopping all developments in this area.

As Day.Az reports, Schwab’s adviser, World Economic Forum expert Yuval Harari spoke about this, speaking about the danger of the rapid development of artificial intelligence.

“I tend to talk a lot about dangers and risks because there are enough entrepreneurs and investors who talk about the positive sides. My job is to think about dangers and risks. I don’t think that humanity will not be able to adapt to the new reality, but it takes time, which we don’t have,” notes Harari.

According to him, in the 19th century there was an industrial revolution and then there were also fears that new factories, steam engines and electricity would destroy humanity or destroy our psyche or something like that, but everything ended well.

“When I hear such comparisons, as a historian, two things worry me: first, people underestimate AI. Artificial intelligence has nothing to do with printing. And this is not the industrial revolution, this is on a completely different scale.

There is a fundamental difference between AI and the printing press, the steam engine, the radio, or any other invention. This is the first technology in history that can make decisions on its own and generate new ideas. The printing press or radio couldn’t write new music or decide what to print and broadcast; people always did that. The printing press and radio only endowed humanity with new powers and possibilities. AI is different, it can take power away from us, it can decide – and is already deciding – what to broadcast on social networks. Its algorithms decide what to promote and, in general, most of the content is created by AI

He can compose completely new music, new political manifestos, holy books – whatever! So it’s much more difficult to deal with. This is an “independent agent”; radio or a printing press were not like that,” the expert emphasizes.
