Preparing for the implementation of the “Equal Way” revolution. From today (Friday), July 1, the sale of “Free Weekly” and “Flexible Monthly Free” subscriptions on public transportation will cease. This, as part of the preparations for the implementation of the “Equal Way” reform of the Ministry of Transportation, which will allow the general public a simple, transparent, equal and cheaper tariff structure from 1 August.

A “free weekly” subscription is canceled as part of the reform due to a lack of attractiveness and a particularly low number of passengers purchasing the subscription. These are about 10,000 passengers and passengers a month, out of about 60 million trips that are made every month throughout the country. With the implementation of the reform and the reduction of the monthly subscription rates, a weekly free subscription is completely redundant. In addition, the sale of a “flexible monthly free” subscription will be stopped in order to reduce gaps in free subscriptions, with the implementation of the reform in about a month on August 1. As of August 1, a “free monthly” subscription, national or regional, will be considered a flexible subscription, and will be valid for 30 days, from the date of purchase of the subscription.

The “Equal Way” revolution creates a new model of service and payment in public transportation and corrects historical distortions in the entire tariff system. “Equal Way” includes many new benefits and leads to the creation of transportation justice and significant savings for both families and individuals. As part of the reform, new and affordable tickets were launched – “national free monthly” which allows bus travel throughout the country for only NIS 225 and “regional free monthly”, which costs NIS 99, which allows free travel for 40 kilometers in area 1, Outside the metropolitan areas of Haifa, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. The tickets significantly expand the travel ranges and save regular passengers on public transportation a lot of money.

Also, the reform significantly expands the discounts given on public transport. For the first time, passengers aged 75 and over will enjoy free travel on public transport, children and youth up to the age of 18 will enjoy a monthly holiday at a 50% discount, and the discount for Social Security beneficiaries will increase from 33% to 50%.

The complete information about the reform and the fare calculation are published on the “Equal Way” website of the Ministry of Transportation: https://pti.org.il/derekh-shava/
