Uttar Pradesh has been ruled by the Hindu nationalist Bhartiya Janata Party, which also rules the country, since 2017. The state police, for their part, are facing severe criticism for the way in which the murder of Ahmed and his brother, who were in their custody, was committed.

The head of government of the state of Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, showed his concern for the freedom of the murderers to take the law into their own hands, “unfazed by the presence of the police and the media,” he said on Twitter.

Ahmed accumulated a hundred criminal cases against him, including assault and murder, and his popularity reached notoriety in the 90s, when he began a political career that led him to occupy a seat in the Lower House of the Indian Parliament or Lok Sabha. .
