A little more than ten days after its reopening to the general public, the enthusiasm for the visit of the Rova to Manjakamiadana does not weaken. This high historic site, rehabilitated 28 years after the criminal fire which had practically reduced it to ashes, has recorded 10,000 visitors since its reopening on June 19.

The first peak in attendance took place on Wednesday, June 28, a day off because of the Aid el Kébir holiday. More than 2,000 visitors were registered during this day, reports the Office of the Rova of Madagasikara (ORMADA), the direction in charge of the management of the places. The ORMADA staff, who did not expect such a large crowd, had to be reinforced.

With such a crowd, the profiteers were not far away. Unauthorized guides invaded the premises, harassing and outright extorting visitors according to the testimony of some visitors. These practices, which unfortunately do not date from yesterday, particularly worry visitors and especially scare away tourists.

Following these incidents, the ministry took the decision to prohibit access to the Rova to non-accredited guides. A call for applications has been launched for guides who wish to work with ORMADA and regularize their situation. Visitors must pay only the entry price fixed and displayed on site at the dedicated counters, recalls the ORMADA.
