After the resignation of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, an interim government will be established in the country.
AZERTAC “Dhaka Tribune” newspaper reported about this with reference to the Commander of the Armed Forces of Bangladesh, General Waker-Uz-Zaman.
“After effective discussions with all political parties, we have decided to establish an interim government,” the publication quoted the army chief as saying.
It should be noted that mass protests began in Bangladesh in early July. Initially, the peaceful protests turned into riots which resulted in the death of more than 300 people. In response, the government imposed a curfew in the capital, cutting communications and shutting down television channels. Law enforcement agencies arrested thousands of activists in connection with the events.
A new wave of protests and demonstrations broke out in the capital Dhaka and across the country after the student movement refused to cooperate with the authorities on Sunday.
Sheikh Hasina resigned in the wake of the riots and left her official residence in the capital Dhaka. It is reported that the Prime Minister, who is currently in India, has sought asylum in Britain.
