An Iranian woman was arrested for eating in a restaurant without a head covering

by time news

The news of the arrest is the latest evidence of the Iranian regime’s actions against its people in response to two weeks of protests following the death of Mehsa Amini in police custody. Amini, 22, was arrested by the country’s notorious “morality police” for allowing part of her hair to emerge from under her hijab. Although Iranian authorities say she died of a heart attack, her family insists she was killed.

“She was tortured in a van after her arrest, then she was tortured at the police station for half an hour, then she was hit in the head and she collapsed,” said Amini’s cousin. So far, more than 1,000 people and at least 28 reporters have been arrested in the ongoing protests led by women, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
