An octogenarian drove 104 km in the opposite direction on the A85 between Tours and Vierzon, we learned this Friday from the Blois prosecutor’s office, which opened an investigation for “endangering others”.

The facts occurred on Sunday March 20. “The driver took the motorway in the opposite direction between Veigné (Indre-et-Loire) and Vierzon (Cher) via Loir-et-Cher, a distance of 104 km. He noticed it and got out at a motorway ramp to go back in the right direction, ”said the public prosecutor of Blois Frédéric Chevallier.

Identified by license plate

“The Blois public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation for facts of aggravated endangerment of the lives of others, aggravated by the fact that there is a manifestly deliberate violation of an obligation of security or prudence”, added Frederic Chevallier.

Sunday around 8 p.m., the gendarmes and firefighters of Indre-et-Loire, Loir-et-Cher and Cher received around fifty calls. Sent to the scene, the gendarmes were unable to intercept the oncoming car and its two occupants.

The octogenarian couple, originally from Haute Savoie, was identified by the license plate of the car. The gendarmes of Haute-Savoie will audition the driver.
