An Se-young (22, pictured), who had expressed dissatisfaction with the Korea Badminton Association and the national badminton team, has expressed her intention not to attend the association’s fact-finding committee for the time being.
An official from the fact-finding committee said in a phone call with the Dong-A Ilbo on the 20th, “We asked Ahn Se-young to attend the meeting on the 20th or 22nd, but Ahn Se-young informed us that she would have difficulty attending due to her personal schedule.” The fact-finding committee is an organization formed by the Badminton Association, and is currently investigating the facts surrounding Ahn Se-young’s complaints about injury management and training support after winning the gold medal in the women’s singles at the Paris Olympics.
The fact-finding committee called in the national team coaches, including coach Kim Hak-gyun, for questioning on the 16th, the day of the first meeting, and said, “We will listen to the opinions of the national team players, including Ahn Se-young, at the next meeting.” Ahn Se-young did not attend the meeting at the time. It is known that the fact-finding committee specifically identified the areas in which Ahn Se-young was disappointed in the national team activities through the coaches. A fact-finding committee official said, “The most important thing is to hear Ahn Se-young’s story,” and “We have decided to try to reschedule the schedule with Ahn Se-young for now.”
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism previously raised a procedural issue, saying that the Badminton Association had formed a fact-finding committee without a resolution from the board of directors. In response, a Badminton Association official said, “We will meet with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to discuss the operation of the fact-finding committee and whether to conduct a joint investigation.”
