General information site Guineematin.com has been subject to restrictions for almost two months. On October 5, the Union of Press Professionals of Guinea (SPPG) claimed to have identified the person responsible and gave him an ultimatum to unblock the site. Otherwise, the Union will take protest measures in the coming days.

GUINEA PRESS PROFESSIONALS UNION (SPPG)

PRESS RELEASE

Between Tuesday October 3 and Wednesday October 4, 2023, a delegation from the national office of the SPPG led by General Pendessa spoke with the management and staff of the Guineematin and Inquisiteur news sites, victims of restrictions for almost two months.

At the Guineematin headquarters, the last stage of this exchange process, the SPPG emissaries, through the voice of General Pendessa, reiterated to our colleagues the unwavering support of our large union family before recalling that the national office held three meetings around of these illegal restrictions whose first encounter dates back to the very beginning of the problem.

The Secretary General of the SPPG then revealed the conclusions of the last meeting which was held on Saturday September 30 at the national headquarters of the union of press professionals of Guinea.

During this very decisive meeting, all the necessary prerequisites for the fight that we are going to engage in this affair were evacuated, ideas and combat plans harmonized.

After all, it was decided to begin a fierce struggle to free the Guineamatin and Inquisiteur sites. But long before, the SPPG gives an ultimatum of a few days to the person (already identified) who uses his leadership position to commit this crime against press freedom. For the moment, we are not going to reveal his name. So he still has time to make amends by Monday, October 9, 2023.

The SPPG specifies that it is observing this moratorium out of respect for people of good will who are used to inviting us to calm down to give negotiations a chance. These good wills can therefore start now to do everything they can to unblock the situation by Monday October 9.

If, despite their involvement, the person behind this digital blockade does not return to earth until the end of the ultimatum, the national office will meet to not only reveal their identity, but also announce strong actions and there, no one cannot blame us for not having listened to this or that.

In the meantime, we ask all journalists worthy of their name to be ready for the assault on dignity and freedom that we will launch from Tuesday October 10 if nothing is done until the day before.
