An African-American criminal was arrested last night (Sunday through Monday) after he attacked a Jew, a Chabad follower, in the Crown Heights neighborhood of the Brooklyn borough of New York, yesterday afternoon.
The incident, which smells of anti-Semitism, took place at the corner of Crown and Troy streets in the neighborhood, around 4:30 p.m.
Documentation from security cameras, published by the local ‘Shmira’ organization, shows the Jew crossing the road, wearing a hat and suit, while an African-American jumps with his fists, hits him and drops his hat to the ground.
The case report, which has been repeated many times recently, was quickly received by the ‘guard’ volunteers. They issued a quick message and together with New York police officers managed to capture the criminal and arrest him.
The Chabad website COLlive reported that the victim’s condition was fine.
“The residents here repeatedly suffer from severe assault,” Yaakov Berman, a local activist who is in constant contact with police, tells Kikar Hashabat. “In some cases the attackers are captured and in some they manage to escape. Unfortunately, this has already become a routine, which deteriorates over time.”
