Riyadh: Nineteen-year-old Sarah Rutherford, a Belgian national, arrived in Riyadh on a small plane around the world alone. The Saudi Aviation Club gave Sarah a warm welcome at the King Khalid International Airport during her voyage through 52 countries.

Riyadh is one of the stops where the plane lands during Sarah’s journey. The purpose of Sarah’s lonely voyage is to promote women’s education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and to arouse their interest in the field of aviation. It flies a total distance of 32,000 km across five continents across 52 countries, including Saudi Arabia.

The adventure began in August 2021 from western Belgium. Travel on the Shark Ultralight, one of the fastest light aircraft in the world. It is the fastest light aircraft in the world with a single engine, two seats and a light wing. It will travel at a speed of 300 kilometers per hour. On August 18, Sarah obtained a special flight license from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration.

If she succeeds in traveling around the world alone in a small plane, she will set a Guinness World Record for being the youngest woman in the world to achieve this feat. Sarah arrived in Riyadh from the UAE. Belgian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Dominic Minor and several officials from the Riyadh Airport Company and the Saudi Aviation Club were present to receive him at the airport.
