Anac, investigation into defense masks. “3 million contracts, irregular tenders”

The Coronavirus emergency in Italy now seems to be behind us, according to all the indicators, deaths and intensive care hospitalizations are decreasing. There are two determining factors, the vaccination campaign which is proceeding at high rates and the more favorable temperatures. But at the beginning of the pandemic things were very different e there was the hunt for safety devices, especially masks, which seemed nowhere to be found. The National Anti-Corruption Authority – reads the press – led by Giuseppe Busia has turned on a spotlight on the lots of masks purchased by the Defense in the middle of the Covid emergency. Five and a half million surgical masks bought by the Defense Industries Agency in five different tranches, starting from April 1, in the chaotic weeks immediately following the start of the pandemic in Italy, ended up in the sights of the ANAC. And another 6 million masks taken in October, at the dawn of the second wave. The total amount of the investment is approximately 3 million euros.

The Anac resolution, filed last Friday, reads: “Wrong procedures, poor controls on supplier companies – continues the Press, and improper recourse to the Public Administration Market”, through which the Defense body identified the companies with to contact. The Defense Agency tries to clarify. The checks on the companies would have taken place – it is pointed out to the Anac – both on the digital platform of the PA and on the suppliers’ registers. If prices were not communicated to Anac – although there was no “availability of official price lists” – they were nevertheless compared with those of other large contracting stations, such as Consip and Civil Protection, thus overcoming some obstacles “due to the obvious urgency imposed by the emergency “.
