Analysis of Necrom, the new great DLC for ESO

There are stubborn companies that their games as a service persist, despite the fact that their beginnings are not the most favorable. Bethesda is an expert in this area, and we have not only seen it with Fallout 76, but we have witnessed all the improvements it has undergone The Elder Scrolls Online. The start was hard in both cases, either due to failures in the playable system itself or due to a lack of localization in our language that made the experience drop many integers. Fortunately, time has been good for both proposals, to such an extent that we are witnessing very interesting DLCs as is the case that concerns us today with Necrom. If you are a ESO player, or a newcomer to this role-playing experience, take note because this addition is very rich in content.

Let the Crux System guide your way

It is worth mentioning thatI’m not a regular ESO player, but that hasn’t stopped me from enjoying the benefits of Necrom. Although we can always return to the endless exploration offered by the base game, this new expansion is completely independent and can be played without having purchased other DLCs. In fact, in a certain part the game invites you to make a “clean slate” thanks to the incorporation of the arcanist, a very versatile new class that offers a breath of fresh air to what has been seen so far.

The arcanist is something completely different from what we have seen so far. The ability he has to master the supernatural energies of Hermaeus Mora gives him multiple facets to suit the player himself. We can be lethal in attack, be the healer of our team or even participate as a tank in brawls with other users. Apart from having spectacular magic, we will have the Crux System for this specific class. While other heroes need mana or a cooldown on their ability, we will have a Crux meter that will refill over time. If we let it fill up completely, we will make much stronger and more forceful attacks, although we can always choose to do less damage in a smaller period of recharge time.

For expert wizards and wizarding beginners

But do not think that Necrom will only give us a new class and little else. We have quite a vast expanse to explore that comprises the Telvanni Peninsula and the hitherto unknown region of Hermaeus Mora. Although there are moments where both areas present colorful settings, the truth is that everything gives off a negative aura. In fact, said by the study itself, They have been based a lot on the creations and inspirations of Lovecraft himself to bring this additional content to life. Yes, there are tentacles and horrifying creatures, but that fear goes further when we explore Hermaeus Mora itself, a place where knowledge reaches levels that not even the human being himself is capable of understanding.

Invocations alone or in company

In the end, that facet of facing the unknown, with a new class completely different from what we have experienced to date, makes Necrom a good additional content. And as I have mentioned before, a good entry point for those who do not know the virtues of ESO. The arcanist’s versatility is reflected not only in combat with other users, but also in the way of facing some of the final bosses, with a more strategic touch than usual. Yes friends, no more playing “cat and mouse” while our skills are recharged. In total, we will have 15 very interesting hours where to expand all the lore that already has that huge continent called Tamriel.

Be careful, that this expansion does not stay only in the main mission. For those who want an extra challenge, you can take on a new world event called The Nighthold, where we will have to join forces with other friends to defeat incredibly powerful creatures. And if you want to sweat a little more, you will also have a new test called On the Edge of Sanitywhere the demand in combat and team tactics will be essential to get out alive.

The evil that overshadows this type of game…

And despite the fact that I say that it is a game suitable for beginners, I also have to warn of certain things. To begin with, it is a title that is already weighing down the years (the base game was launched in 2014) and that implies certain shortcomings and failures. Its interface is not the most beautiful in the world nor the most pleasant to witness. It’s a real puzzle to navigate the menus and get familiar with the location of the objects.

Its combat system is not very graceful either, with physics and collisions that are sometimes non-existent. In the first person the type still holds up a little longer, but if we prefer to play in the third person, the animations of our protagonist are anything but fluid. In truth, if you have played any Fallout or The Elder Scrolls you will know what I am talking about, since it is a very similar behavior.

ESO: Necrom Conclusion

Bethesda wants us not to lose the desire to expand our knowledge about the lands of The Elder Scrolls Online, and it catches us in a heady way thanks to this new expansion. Necrom has everything that the fan of the saga can ask for in a DLC. New stories that expand the lore of the ESO universe, radically different areas that break with pre-established ideas and a completely different new class to what has been seen to date. Without a doubt, now that we finally have the texts in our language, it is a perfect time to enter the vast kingdom of Tamriel. And if it is with the arcanist, much better.
