BUTEMBO – The Sokola 1 Grand North Kivu operations command has just handed over, in recent days, several ex-hostages of the ADF/MTM terrorists to the civil society of Beni. Among these ex-hostages, some escaped from the hands of the kidnappers and others were released following the military pressure exerted on the enemy by the FARDC-UPDF coalition.
Commenting on this fact, the journalist and researcher of the Great Lakes, Nicaise Kibel’Bel Oka, puts forward three hypotheses to explain the release of the hostages by the ADF. According to him, it may be a consequence of the military pressure exerted on the ADF, the famine that this terrorist group is facing, or even a strategy put in place by the enemy to infiltrate in the society. He thinks the security services should exercise “high caution”.
“The ADF/MTM today have two enemies, the firepower of the FARDC and starvation because they are forced to move at any time. We must also add the fact of having attacked their attic which is Mwalika. The second explanation is at the strategy level. Among the hostages recovered, we must naturally fear that there may be infiltrators. This is the strategy of survival and infiltration. Vulnerable hostages are released so that they can find medical care and food among the population. They can serve as an information channel for those in the forest,” analyzes this writer, author of several works on the ADF/MTM war.
On Wednesday September 6, 10 ex-ADF hostages were handed over to civil society in the town of Beni by the army. Among them were two children and three women. According to the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), these compatriots were released thanks to the various military operations carried out against the ADF/MTM in Beni territory.
