Computer manufacturers in the fourth quarter of 2021 shipped 92.7 million units, and at the end of the year – 348.8 million computers, which is 14.8% more than in 2020, the analytical company IDC reported. According to her, such a high level has not been observed since 2012. Without supply chain issues, growth could have been even higher, said Tom Mainelli, vice president of device and consumer market research at IDC.
The top five PC makers — Lenovo, HP, Dell, Apple and Acer — maintained their positions in 2021. Apple showed the largest increase in shipments: it shipped 22.1% more computers than other market leaders. In the fourth quarter, Asus (+12.5%) showed the most noticeable growth, which shared fifth place with Acer in the quarterly ranking.
According to Mr. Mainelli, the market in the fourth quarter was affected by “difficult logistical conditions, coupled with a continuing shortage of supplies.” He expects the market to continue to struggle with supply chain issues during the first half of 2022.
